PARISH SCHOOL OF RELIGION
The Parish School of Religion Program is held in the Family Life Center on Sunday mornings from 9:35-10:50am.
This program offers the opportunity for children to attend either the 8:30am mass or the 11:00am mass on a
Sunday morning. The children attending the 8:30am mass simply walk over from church with their parents to
their respective classroom. After class, if the family has not attended mass, parents can pick up their
children and proceed over to church. This program is rich in teaching children who attend Public Schools,
about their Catholic faith. The program also prepares the second graders for the sacraments of Reconciliation
and Eucharist. It is in our eighth grade class that we prepare for the sacrament of Confirmation. Those
children who attend St. John Neuman Catholic School, will have classes scheduled during the year to do last
minute preparations for the sacraments here at St. Cecilia. Sr. Therese will meet with the students at SJN
after school hours, six weeks prior to the sacrament. A sacramental meeting for each sacrament is obligatory
for each parent and child. The second and eighth graders make a retreat prior to receiving the sacrament.
The community of St. Cecilia has dedicated catechist, who work with the parents and students in the Parish
School of Religion Program. All our catechist have taken Protecting God’s Children Program from the Diocese,
as well as completing a background check, which puts them as safe, drug and crime free, responsible catechist
and parents. Each classroom has two Catechist, which allows for team teaching and protection for each of
your children. Consistency flows, especially when one of the Catechist is absent due to a family activity or
illness. The program uses the Sadlier Religion Program, which is highly recommended.
