How Does One Become A Catholic? R.C.I.A
If you are interested in learning about the Catholic faith or would want to become a member of our Catholic Church, please call Sr. Therese at 288-5523 at the Family Life Center or Father Joe at 288-3200. Classes begin in late September or early October and end on Holy Saturday. You may be surprised at how many of our R.C.I.A. candidates are baptized in other religions and the Catholic Church accepts them as valid baptisms. Classes are to prepare, instruct and enrich the faith that you are entering into on Holy Saturday night, the night of acceptance into the Catholic Church.
Sacramental Preparation
The St. Cecilia Parish Sacramental process will focus on the second grade level for each of the sacraments
of Reconciliation and Eucharist. Usually the child has been registered with us in the Parish School of
Religion Program, which is held on Sunday morning between the masses. In this way, he/she is getting
background in their Catholic Faith as they progress from Pre-School to the second grade. A child that
attends SJN Catholic School will make both these sacraments at the parish of St. Cecilia on the designated
date. Prior to the sacrament, Sr. Therese will hold preparation classes with these children at SJN School.
Updates and scheduled events will be given out to the students at SJN, so that they are kept abreast of the
upcoming sacraments.
Confirmation takes place in the eighth grade or thru the R.C.I.A. program if the person is an adult.
Again, the Parish School of Religion Program begins the preparation for this sacrament already in the
seventh grade.
For the sacrament of Baptism, please contact the Parish Office at 288-3200 for further information
concerning Pre-Jordan classes and the actual day of your child’s baptism. Parents are expected to be a
contributing member of St. Cecilia’s Parish for at least six months prior to their baby’s baptism. Parents
can attend the Pre-Jordan class prior to the baby being born, so in that way a closer date to the time of
birth can be set for the baptism. Any adult that has not been baptized, usually contacts Sr. Therese at
288-5523 or Father Joe at 288-3200 in order to become a participant in the R.C.I.A. program
