Order of Christian Initiation (OCIA)

rciaThe Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is the process by which people can question, search, and inquire into the Catholic faith. OCIA is a journey which leads many to seek full membership in our Church.  OCIA is for any unbaptized adult who is new to the Catholic faith or any unbaptized child usually over the age of 7.  It is also for any adult or child over the age of 7 who was baptized in another Christian tradition.  The Catechumenate also welcomes baptized Catholic adults seeking to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.   For others this journey may not lead to full membership. Either way, all are welcome to come and see, to ask questions, and to look more deeply.

OCIA Catechists

To implement the OCIA program, St Cecilia Church set up a welcoming group. This group is made up of OCIA Catechists. Anyone interested in becoming an OCIA Catechist should shine in the fruit of the Holy Spirit, namely in "love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness and self- control. [Gal. 5:22-3] The OCIA Catechist should be a practicing Catholic, mature in faith, team oriented, loyal to the teachings of the Church, humble, respectful, prayerful and knowledgeable. Catechists provide students with information and experience needed to decide whether God is calling them to the Catholic way of life. The student is the only one that can make that decision. The role of the leader and teacher in the OCIA is to help those interested in becoming Catholic to discern for themselves.

Please contact the parish office or our pastor to volunteer.

All OCIA Catechists are required to complete the safety program to promote a safe environment for our children.
